A Few Days in Edinburgh

We read somewhere recently that blogging has changed and that people consume information so much faster now than ever before and therefore just need it fed to them in short bursts... Our space on the internet came about as a kind of digital photo album and as photographers we've always felt more comfortable with pictures than with words so the words in this post will be minimal.

(We also made a short behind the scenes video in Edinburgh, you can watch it here)

We spent a few days in Edinburgh to lose ourselves in a holiday bubble - we've come to learn that we relax by doing (although a beach/heat holiday would be very welcome too!) and balanced our stay at Porteous' Studio with a few days full of Edinburgh culture. Here are our notes:

The pastries at Söderberg bakery (we went to the West End shop) were INSANELY good. We loved the cinnamon buns and cardamom buns in equal measure.

We enjoyed the eclectic architecture of the historic Dean Village.

Mother's day gave us the perfect excuse to visit Aesop in Stockbridge (and we may have accidentally bought the Reverence had wash for ourselves too because we couldn't resist). The interior felt familiar to us with it's raw, stripped-back aesthetic and we loved that the shelving is built from a single Sycamore tree - Scottish of course.

The Method; an impeccably tidy shop with treatment rooms downstairs for massage, facials and other therapies. We bought some incense and took way too many pictures of the simple but effective visual merchandising... The hints of amber and gold really elevate the neutral tones and we could've stayed inside forever.

Took a wander down (or up?!) Circus Lane.

Lowdown Coffee was ace; a pared-down space offering table service coffee, cake and a selection of light meals. We enjoyed the colour palette and took the opportunity to have a sit down and recharge our batteries, literally.

Life Story is a lifestyle and homewares shop that is full to the brim with designers such as Aandersson, HAY, Notem and Ferm Living. We first learned of them via Trouva.

A firm favourite of ours in Edinburgh is The National Museum of Scotland. So much fun to be had - we could lose days in there, and its FREE.

The last stop on our trip before our train home was The Milkman; a small-but-perfectly-formed coffee shop with great service.
