Kyoto Notes, Japan

We stayed in Kyoto for a total of 5 nights but split them up with a one-night stay in Nara and a day trip to Osaka. Our first hotel was right in the city centre and when we returned a second time we stayed in the Higashiyama district, famous for its historic wooden buildings and the familiar Yasaka Pagoda.

During the day the Higashiyama district was absolutely packed (one of the days was a National Culture Day so everyone gets a day off work to indulge and celebrate in - you guessed it: culture) so we got up SUPER early (our idea of early is anything before 6am) and explored before others stirred from their beds and likewise enjoyed after-dusk wanders too.
