PM & Vänner Hotel + Restaurant — Växjo, Sweden
*We were kindly hosted by Visit Sweden during our entire stay in the country but all words, pictures and opinions are our own.*
Our first taste of Swedish hospitality, values and design was in the good hands of PM & Vänner in a Swedish city called Växjo.
Per Bengtsson and Monica Carlsson founded PM & Vänner in 1992 and since then the company has grown to include a hotel, bistro, rooftop bar, bakery and a florist as well as a Michelin star restaurant - that’s the ‘vänner’ part, which translates as ‘friends.’
Our room at PM & Vänner was pretty incredible, and what a way to be welcomed into the country; we were handed fresh cinnamon rolls when we arrived and shown to our super fancy ‘sense of place’ suite.
After checking out our room we were whisked down to the wine cellar and given a tour of the some 5000 wines from independent growers all over the world and given an introduction into the philosophy behind the whole business.
We learned of the desire to celebrate Småland in as many ways as possible; oak flooring made from the forests, limestone quarried from the nearby island of Öland and of course food and drink sourced using locally and sustainably-grown ingredients where possible.
Our short stay at PM & Vänner was full of treats. During the evening we ate from the restaurant menu (but dined in the bistro) and were served course after course of incredible culinary creations that takes inspiration from the theme of ‘forest, lake and meadow’.
We also checked out their onsite florists.
We thoroughly enjoyed our short time here; it felt like a relaxing place to spend a few days surrounded by all the things that make life great… cinnamon rolls and rooftop saunas are everyday essentials right?!
