Royal Botanic Garden Victoria — Melbourne
When we found ourselves in Melbourne Australia a couple of months ago we couldn't help but check out their botanic garden and although we hadn't expected to find any kind of greenhouse, we happened to discover a little gem.
There was something about the basic construction of this glasshouse that caught our attention and although it seemed a familiar sight from a distance we quickly realised that there were many subtle unfamiliarities in many of its details. The way the glass met the brickwork for example, how the metalwork extended beyond the glazing bars and even the colour palette of the plants protected inside was a surprise to us. As it was late winter in the Southern hemisphere we only had 30 minutes of daylight left for us to enjoy and photograph the structure and its plant inhabitants... So of course we ran around like giddy children documenting the Bromeliads and Sansevieria that guided a path through the Cannas and Palms inside the streamy room.
If you happen to find yourself in the city of Melbourne (Australia) it's definitely worth a visit, especially as it's a completely free attraction.
