The Best View of Los Angeles

This was our pilgrimage to see the Hollywood sign, I mean we couldn't travel all the way to LA and not see the Hollywood Hills could we? We figured out (Googled) that the best view of the Hollywood sign, and of LA as it turned out, was from the Griffith Observatory

When we arrived in the car it was impossible to find a parking space due to an event at The Greek Theatre that evening, so we ended up parking at the South end of Western Canyon Road. From here it was about a 40 minute walk up to the observatory, but the path is well trodden and it was easy to find our way.

From the top the views were epic, yes there was smog covering the city but this kind of added to the magic with an endless stream helicopters passing by on the horizon. As we visited on a weekend it was busy up there, but not so much that it spoiled the experience it just meant that you had to wait a few moments to get your picture taken in front of the Hollywood sign.
