Barbara Hepworth Museum and Garden — St Ives
The Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden is in St Ives (Cornwall) and is run by the Tate Gallery. It opened in 1976 following the artist's wish to invite people into her home following her death the year before. Hepworth wanted her home, studio and work to be accessible to those that wanted to see it and had very specific ideas about how it was to be presented. Entrance to the garden costs £6 with Gift Aid.
We felt that the garden was everything that we wanted in an outdoor space and that the planting suited us to a T; foliage-based, well-kept but with a feeling of wildness and punctuated by huge lumps of bronze and stone. We've added this to our 'remember-this-when-we're-constructing-our-own-house/garden' pile.
