Our Stay at Five Acre Barn in Suffolk — England
Our first adventure in Suffolk landed us in a B&B just outside Leiston near Aldeburgh and what a place to base our expeditions from…
5 Acre Barn is a 5-bed barn conversion (a Blee Halligan project) and we can’t recommend it enough. It’s all the work of owners David and Bruce, who painstakingly carried out a lot of the construction work themselves and now endeavour to make sure that their guests are looked after. They’re assisted by their gorgeous dogs Ruby and Lola.
As usual we will let the pictures do the talking (and obviously the fact that we’re sharing it here - we only ever share places we LOVE) but you should know that this place really felt like home to us and we can’t wait to go back.
We spent most of our time here in the bath or out on the deck looking up at the stars - the only thing that could make it any better is if there were some sort of Swedish sauna/hot tub combo but that’s on our wish list for literally anywhere we stay… I guess the onsen of Japan made a real impact on us.
All guests have access and use of the living room and dining table and every single part of the whole build is furnished with midcentury treasures and handmade items that David and Bruce have sourced and curated. The whole place is inspiring and their use of colour is just incredible, yet each space feels very homely and comfortable. Definitely a home and not a gallery.
Our hosts are great gardeners too; although young the garden/s remind us of Sissinghurst and Hauser & Wirth (see our post on H&W here) mixed together and the result is beautifully considered zonal planting with a white garden, a more colourful border and then the more prairies-style grasses out back.
